Renewed mind

When the Word becomes the air you breathe

We tend to treat Scripture like a task โ€” something to sit down and do properly, so we rarely sit down and do it at all. But the Word was never meant to be only a discipline. It was meant to be the air you breathe. 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God' (Matthew 4:4).

So play it while you drive. Let it run while you train. Let it murmur while you lie awake at 3 a.m. You will not remember every verse, and that is not the point. The point is that truth soaks in below the level of effort, and the mind is renewed without becoming another line on your list.

Over time, you will find the Word coming back when you need it โ€” not because you memorised it, but because it memorised you. In the moment of temptation a line of Scripture will rise before you can think to reach for it, and that line is Jesus, the Shepherd calling His own by name: 'My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me' (John 10:27).

Let the Word be the air, and let Jesus be the breath in the air. The renewed mind is not a mind that tried harder; it is a mind quietly, daily soaked in Him.
