Marriage
Marriage, honesty, and the long road back
Rebuilding trust after betrayal is not a project with a deadline. It is a long, slow, costly road, and it is possible. But it does not run on your timeline. It runs on hers, and it runs on the patience of Jesus, who is gentle with the men He is restoring.
Honesty is the only currency that spends here. Not the honesty of being caught, but the honesty of choosing to be known before you have to be. 'Each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbour' (Ephesians 4:25). A man who brings his inner world into the marriage before it spills over is a man learning to come home.
You will not get back the marriage you had. You are being invited into a better one — built on truth rather than performance, on grace rather than pretence. 'Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her' (Ephesians 5:25). That kind of love does not stay at a distance; it lays its own pretence down.
The road is long, but it leads somewhere worth walking, and you do not walk it alone. Jesus walks it with you, and with her. A marriage rebuilt in His hands is not a patched-up version of the old one; it is something new.
