Why grace, not willpower, is what makes restoration last
Before you try harder, hear this. There is a kind of effort that looks like recovery but is really just exhaustion. You resolve, you strain, you white-knuckle another week, and then you fall โ and the fall feels like proof that you are beyond grace. But willpower was never meant to carry a soul. Only Jesus can do that.
Restoration begins the day you stop pretending you can do this alone. Grace does not lower the bar of holiness; it raises the floor you fall onto. 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness' (2 Corinthians 12:9). The man met by grace is not the man who tried harder, but the man who finally admitted he could not, and turned to the One who already did.
So when you fall, do not run from Him. Run to Him. Freedom is not the absence of struggle; it is the presence of Christ in the struggle โ He does not wait at the finish line for you to arrive clean, He walks the road with you. 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest' (Matthew 11:28). The soul that returns to grace every morning is the soul that learns to rest there.
